MAY HOLIDAYS

Cinco de Mayo - Mexican holiday "Fifth of
May"

Mother's Day, 2nd Sunday  as proposed by
Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia in 1907. West
Virginia was the first state to recognize the
holiday in 1910, and President Woodrow
Wilson officially proclaimed Mother's Day a
national holiday in 1914.
Ascension Day, Thurs.,. The Ascension of
Jesus took place in the presence of his
apostles
40 days after the Resurrection. It
is traditionally thought to have occurred on
Mount Olivet in Bethany.

Memorial Day: Celebrated on the fourth
Monday
of May, this holiday honors the
dead. Although it originated in the aftermath
of the Civil War, it has become a day on
which the dead of all wars, and the dead
generally, are remembered in special
programs held in cemeteries, churches,
and other public meeting places.
